How to Organize a Meal Train or Send Food Without Cooking

When someone you care about is going through a major life event, whether it's the joy of a new baby, the exhaustion after surgery or the grief of losing a loved one, offering help in the form of food is one of the most thoughtful ways to show support. That’s where the concept of a meal train comes in.

A meal train is a simple way to organize meal deliveries for someone in need. How it works: People sign up to bring meals on designated days, helping to take one big task off the recipient’s plate. In the Philly area especially, gifting high-quality meals is our love language.

Traditionally, participants cook meals at home and drop them off. But what cooking isn't your thing? That’s where Home Appétit comes in.

Here's how it works:

  • There's no subscription, so you can send meals once or as often as you'd like.

  • Our chefs post new menus every Tuesday. You can place an order between Tuesday and Friday at 10 p.m. each week. Meals are delivered on Mondays, in a delivery window of your choosing. (No waiting around all day.)

  • You'll select the number of people you're feeding (one, two, three or four). Then, you'll select four entrees and four small plates. With our Classic order type, we'll up the portions for the number of people you're serving. (Example: If you select two people and chicken parm, we'll send two servings of chicken parm.) With our Flex ordering, you can select different dishes for each person.

  •  At checkout, select "this is a gift," leave your message and our team will hand-write the note to include with the delivery. Your recipient will get an email Monday morning letting them know their delivery is on the way, plus heating instructions and other important info.

Our menu changes every week, with seasonal dishes crafted by chefs who have worked at some of Philly’s best restaurants like Vernick, Amada, Parc, Pumpkin, Barbuzzo, and more.

We're based right here in Philadelphia and deliver in a 50-mile radius from our kitchen. (This includes the Main Line, Montco, Bucks, Delco, Chester county, Wilmington and South Jersey.) We've won two Best of Philly awards and have more than 200 five-star Google reviews.

Ordering starts at $100 for eight dishes, which is enough for four to six meals. Feeding more than one person? It’s just $60 for each additional eater.

It’s a way to say “I’m thinking of you” with nourishment, without adding another task to your to-do list.

Not sure what they like to eat? A gift card is a great option, too.
